24 Days of Christmas: Day 4

With the first 3 days of December having large or out of the house surprises in our family advent calendar, we went simple for Day 4: Family movie night.

I wanted to watch a Christmas themed movie and after going through our lengthy list (see some suggestions at the end of this post), Will and I decided on Home Alone. Our kids are just starting to watch “Mommy and Daddy shows” (meaning shows that are NOT cartoons) and they have never seen Home Alone before.

So after dinner, the kids got in their pj’s and I made up some peppermint hot chocolate and poured a couple of bowls of our favorite popcorn, Boom Chicka Pop (so yummy!). It started good, the kids were interested. They were a bit preoccupied with their snacks and asking lots of questions about what was happening in the movie.

If you’ve watched Home Alone you’ll know there’s a bit of a lull in the middle. The kids were done their snacks and not much was going on in the movie so the kids got a bit antsy. Then came the best part: the booby traps!  Jordan started killing himself laughing. He was laughing so hard that BOTH Cam and little Lincoln (10 months old) started laughing too. Of course that was so funny that Will and I started laughing with them as well.

Apparently slapstick is always “in” for kids. Every time anything happened to someone they laughed their heads off. For a 25 year old movie it sure holds up well. They all sat through the whole movie (Lincoln kind of doing his own thing but even he watched a good chunk of it) and it was really fun to have a special movie night with the kids.

Try one of these other movies for your family movie night:

  1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
  2. Elf
  3. The Polar Express
  4. Arthur Christmas
  5. Mickey’s Once (and Twice) Upon a Christmas
  6. Frosty the Snowman
  7. The Santa Clause
  8. Miracle on 34th Street
  9. Fred Clause
  10. A Christmas Story
