‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Hmm… doesn’t sound like our house.
We have a tradition that is part of our 4 gift rule (3 if you don’t count the one from Santa). One of the 3 gifts we get the kids is a new set of pajamas. They get to open their pj’s on Christmas Eve and wear them that night.
This year, in addition to the pajamas, I decided to buy a copy of The Night Before Christmas for us to read on Christmas Eve. So, the kids opened their pj’s and we all sat on the couch to read our story.
I must say, the story paints a picture of kids sleeping and the house being all ready for Santa to arrive. Our house, and I imagine many others, wasn’t quite so picturesque. So, here’s my version:
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the place, the kids were all running, bright smiles on each face.
Too excited for bed, they knew Santa was near, Mom and Dad had to threaten he would not appear.
“He will not come,” said Daddy “until you’re asleep. So off to bed and I don’t want to hear a peep.”
With the kids all asleep: one, two and three, Mom and Dad started placing gifts under the tree.
It took a long time, to get everything right, before they knew it, it was almost midnight!
Mom and Dad went to bed, and closed the door, the next thing they knew, it was a quarter past four.
The kids were up, yelling “Mom! It’s just like we thought, Santa’s been here, let’s go see what he brought!”
They all ran downstairs, saw the presents with glee, Merry Christmas to all… now where’s my coffee?
Hope you got more sleep than I did! Merry Christmas!
